Aerial activities

The term "aerial activities" refers to the following activities:
- the use of a skybeamer, a floodlight that projects bright light into the air;
- the use of a laser;
- a balloon release;
- a sky lantern release;
- the launch of a weather balloon;
- the installation of an unoccupied tethered balloon;
- fireworks.
Anyone who wishes to engage in these activities must submit a permit application to the Directorate of Civil Aviation (Direction de l'aviation civile - DAC).
Who is concerned
Anyone who wishes to engage in one of the following aerial activities:
- the use of a skybeamer;
- the use of a laser;
- a balloon release;
- a sky lantern release;
- the launch of a weather balloon;
- the installation of an unoccupied tethered balloon;
- fireworks.
Prerequisites
Applicants must clearly identify their planned activity so they can email the proper documents to the DAC.
Deadlines
The application must be submitted and/or completed 15 working days (Monday through Friday) before the start date of the activity.
How to proceed
Submitting the application
Applicants must send the permit application to the DAC using the required form. Applications can be sent by email to civilair@av.etat.lu.
Supporting documents
The application must be accompanied by the supporting documents that are:
- consistent with the information to be provided in the appropriate form;
- requested by the DAC if the application file is incomplete or submitted incorrectly.
Duration of validity
Authorisations shall be valid:
- for a fixed period based on the activity in question;
- for the period specified on the permit.
