Quality label "bed + bike"

In Luxembourg, the "bed + bike" label awarded by the Ministry of the Economy in collaboration with the "Lëtzebuerger Vëlos-Initiativ" (LVI) is a quality label for accommodation establishments who welcome touring cyclists.

The label provides cyclists with reliable and easily accessible information about establishments who offer the services and the infrastructure required for their needs.

Applications for the label should be submitted to the LVI.

Who is concerned?

The "bed+bike" label is for accommodation establishments, especially hotels / boarding houses, camp sites and  B&Bs / youth hostels.

All establishments who meet the minimal requirements of the "bed + bike" label (see below) can be certified. 

Prerequisites

Requirements for accommodation establishments

Owners or operators of accommodation establishments (hotels and boarding houses, B&Bs and youth hostels) have to:

  • accept to welcome touring cyclists for a single night;
  • have a free bicycle storage room which can be locked for the night;
  • offer touring cyclist the possibility to dry their clothes and their equipment;
  • offer breakfast adapted to the needs of sportspeople or provide a list of shops nearby where the cyclists can purchase food;
  • display, lend or sell maps and regional travel guides for cyclists and provide bus, train and boat times;
  • make the following available for touring cyclists:
    • a repair kit with the main repair tools;
    • information, opening hours and telephone numbers of cycle shops nearby where larger repair work can be taken care of.

In addition to these minimal requirements, the accommodation establishment has to offer at least 2 other services among a list of additional services which is available on the website of the "Lëtzebuerger Vëlos-Initiativ" (LVI).

Requirements for camp sites

Owners or operators of camp sites have to:

  • accept to welcome touring cyclists for a single night;
  • have spaces to set up tents:
    • the spaces must be clearly marked and reserved for cyclists and other travellers without motorised vehicles;
    • the spaces must be on grass (no gravel or grit);
  • there must be a secure bicycle parking or a secure bicycle parking area near the tents;
  • offer touring cyclist the possibility to dry their clothes and their equipment;
  • commit not to apply an additional fee to touring cyclists;
  • display, lend or sell maps and regional travel guides for cyclists and provide bus, train and boat times;
  • make the following available for touring cyclists:
    • a repair kit with the main repair tools;
    • information, opening hours and telephone numbers of cycle shops nearby where larger repair work can be taken care of.

In addition to these minimal requirements, the camp site has to offer at least 2 other services among a list of additional services which is available on the website of the "Lëtzebuerger Vëlos-Initiativ" (LVI).

How to proceed

Application for certification "bed+bike"

In order to obtain the "bed + bike" label, the applicant has to complete the certification form "bed+bike" (information sheet + contract) and send it to:

Registration is undertaken by the LVI on behalf of the Ministry of the Economy.

Documents to be submitted with the application

The registration form has to be submitted together with the following documents:

  • 2 photos of the establishment in colour and in landscape format (inside and outside view of the establishment, printed photos or files in .tif or .jpg format, resolution 300 dpi, size 4x3 cm), to be sent to: info@bedandbike.lu;
  • brochure of the establishment and tariffs in force;
  • where applicable, the star rating certificate providing proof of the number of stars awarded to the hotel establishment.

Granting the certification

Following the application for the label, the LVI will undertake an inspection of the establishment in order to verify that it complies with the certification requirements.

Where the application is accepted, the establishment will be loaned the plate "bed+bike" (the Ministry of the Economy remains the owner of the plate).

Each year, the establishment will receive a stamp to be affixed on the plate in order to indicate to visitors that the label has been awarded for the current year.

Total number of rooms x EUR 6 (up to a maximum of EUR 420)

Camp sites

Single registration fee

The single registration fee for camp sites amounts to EUR 123.

Annual fee

The annual fee for owners or operators of camp sites is EUR 125.
