Work for applicants for international protection

As of 12 June 2026, if you are an applicant for international protection, you no longer need to apply for a temporary work permit.

However, you do not immediately have the right to work once your application for international protection is registered. You must wait 4 months to be able to enter into an employment contract.

As such, you are authorised to work in Luxembourg, in accordance with the provisions of the Labour Code, if:

  • you have filed an application for international protection that is currently being processed;
  • your application was registered at least 4 months prior;
  • a final decision has not yet been made on your application, and you cannot be held responsible for this delay.

If you registered your application for international protection after 11 June 2026, the date on which you become employable and therefore authorised to work will appear on the back of your proof of application for international protection (pink document).

Exception: if your application for international protection is being fast-tracked, you will not be granted access to the labour market. If you were previously granted access, this access will be withdrawn. In this case, you will be notified that you are not authorised to work in Luxembourg.
