All practitioners of social and educational professions (qualified educators and care assistants) must be licensed by the Department for the recognition of diplomas.

Who is concerned

Anyone wishing to practise one of the social and educational professions in Luxembourg must hold a licence to do so.

Prerequisites

Preliminary steps

Before filling out an application for a licence to practise, they must have their professional qualifications officially recognised.

They can do this by submitting a request to the Department for the recognition of diplomas.

Costs

Applications for a licence to practise such a profession are subject to a fee of EUR 75.

The fee must be paid by bank transfer to the post office account of the Registration Duties, Estates and VAT Authority (Administration de l'enregistrement, des domaines et de la TVA - AED):
IBAN: LU13 1111 0011 4679 0000
BIC: CCPLLULL
Communication: Taxe reconnaissance des diplômes, MENJE, Name of the applicant, Date of the application

Proof of payment must be submitted with the application.

How to proceed

Filing an application

Applicants will receive a certificate of recognition of their professional qualifications (which must have been requested prior to applying for a licence to practise) by post.

It will be accompanied by a letter listing the additional items required for the issue of a licence to practise one of the social and educational professions:

  • payment of the EUR 75 fee for the licence to practise;
  • a recent copy of the applicant's criminal record (record no. 3 and record no. 5 for residents of Luxembourg / model 2 for residents of Belgium) that is no more than two months old.

Proof of payment of the fee of EUR 75 must be submitted with the application.

Processing the application

Once the applicant's file is complete, the Department for the recognition of diplomas will generally respond within 2 to 6 weeks, and after no more than 3 months.

This period begins on the date on which the Department for the recognition of diplomas receives the complete application file.
