Announcing plans for a driven hunt
Last update
In order to ensure the safety of both hunters and the general public, notices of driven hunts are posted in the communes and on the Geoportail.lu. To that end, they must be announced to the Nature and Forest Agency (Administration de la nature et des forêts - ANF) at least 15 days prior to the planned date.
Who is concerned
Before planning a driven hunt, one of the leaseholders on the hunting ground in question is required to inform the Nature and Forest Agency and the communal administration offices for the area where the hunting ground is located.
How to proceed
Filing an announcement with the Nature and Forest Agency
Driven hunts must be announced by one of the hunting ground's leaseholders to the Nature and Forest Agency at one of the addresses mentioned below, at least 15 days before the date of the hunt, using the dedicated form and indicating:
- the date, time and place for meeting;
- the planned locations for the hunt (hunting grounds and communes affected);
- the contact information (name, address, telephone numbers) of 2 people responsible for organising the hunt.
The duly completed form must be accompanied by a map of the meeting point(s) and, where applicable, the boundaries of the tracked areas (A, B, C, etc.).
The form and the map of the site planned for the hunt should preferably be sent by email. If it is impossible to send the form electronically, it can be sent by ordinary post or delivered by hand.

The Nature and Forest Agency must be informed of any change. It is in charge of posting the hunting ground and the date of the hunt on the map on the website Geoportail.lu. The date and hunting ground must be posted on the site no later than 5 days prior to the hunt.
Posting on Geoportail.lu is not required for hunts of 12 hunters or fewer, or for driven boar hunts organised within a period of less than 15 days. In that case, the leaseholders must inform the officials of the competent Nature and Forest Agency for the territory, preferably by email.
Announcement to the communes
At least 15 days before the date of the driven hunt, the leaseholder of the hunting ground must send the completed form for posting and a copy of the map to the communal administration offices for the territory in which the hunting ground is located.
The communal administration is in charge of announcing the date and the hunting ground by putting up posters in the commune in the usual manner. To better inform the public, the commune may post a map showing the boundaries of the hunting grounds alongside the announcement of the hunt.
Posting at the commune is not required for hunts with 12 hunters or fewer, or for driven boar hunts organised within a period of less than 15 days. In that case, the leaseholders must inform the officials of the competent Nature and Forest Agency for the territory, preferably by email.
Informing the public
The hunting ground leaseholder must inform the public of the driven hunt by means of signs that are installed and clearly visible at the exits to marked highways, roads, paths and trails crossing or alongside the hunting area, no later than the day of the hunt. The signs should be removed the day after the hunt. The date of the hunt must be indicated on the signs.
On the day of the hunt, which must have been duly announced to the public, members of the public access the forest at their own risk. Deliberately disrupting the driven hunt in any manner whatsoever is prohibited.
Road-building permit
In accordance with the law of 21 December 2009 on road-building permits, a road-building permit must be requested for any signposting planned along a state road in the context of a driven hunt.
