Last update

Third-country nationals, who are family members of a citizen of the EU or of a country treated as such (Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein or Switzerland) and who no longer have their residence permit for family members or their permanent residence permit for family members must ask for its replacement.

Residence permit for family members

In the event of loss, theft or damage to their residence permit, the third-country national must submit an application for replacement to the General Department of immigration of the Ministry of Home Affairs, either online via MyGuichet.lu, or by post (see 'Online services and forms').

Submitting the application online

The application is available on MyGuichet.lu. The online procedure can be completed:

  • with authentication using:
    • a LuxTrust product; or
    • an electronic identity card (eID); or
  • without authentication.

The supporting documents indicated below must be attached to the online application.

Submitting the application by post

If the application is submitted by post, the application form and the supporting documents listed hereafter must be sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Supporting documents

The following documents must be attached to the application:

  • a copy of the valid passport, in its entirety;
  • in case of loss or theft of the permit: the declaration of theft/loss established by the police;
  • in case of damage to the permit: the damaged permit.

Permanent residence permit for family members

In the event of loss, theft or damage to their permanent residence permit, the third-country national must submit an application for replacement in the same way as for the application for replacement of the residence permit, as described above, i.e. online via MyGuichet.lu or by post using a specific form (see 'Online services and forms'). It must be accompanied by the following documents:

  • a copy of the valid passport, in its entirety;
  • in case of loss or theft of the permit: the declaration of theft/loss established by the police;
