Financial aid for the creation of an integrated dwelling

Last update

State financial aid is available for the creation of an integrated dwelling.

This subsidy, which is capped at EUR 10,000, is only granted if all the conditions have been met.

The amount of the subsidy rises to EUR 20,000 if the integrated dwelling is lived in for the first time after 1 September 2023 and if the work to create it is completed before 31 December 2026.

Who is concerned

You can apply for the financial aid if you want to create an integrated dwelling in a property you fully own and that is located in Luxembourg.

Prerequisites

If you want to benefit from the subsidy to create an integrated dwelling, you must:

  • be a natural person of legal age on the date of the application;
  • be authorised to legally reside in Luxembourg, be domiciled there and actually live there;
  • have full and exclusive ownership of the property;
  • not own any other property in Luxembourg or abroad; and
  • have been granted a building permit from your communal administration for the creation of the integrated dwelling before carrying out the work to convert your home.

Conditions relating to the integrated dwelling

The integrated dwelling must be created in a single-family house.

The surface area of the integrated dwelling must be smaller than the surface area of the main home.

The integrated dwelling must have a separate access from the main home, consisting of a door that provides a direct access to the outside of the house or to an indoor common area in the house, without the occupants of the integrated dwelling having to pass through the living room, bathroom or bedroom of the main home.

Only one integrated dwelling per single-family house is eligible for the subsidy.

How to proceed

Submitting the application

If you wish to benefit from the aid, you must complete and sign the specific form (see 'Online services and forms') and return it, together with the required documents, to the Single point of contact for housing assistance (Guichet unique des aides au logement) no later than 3 years from the date of the building permit.

Supporting documents

You must include the following documents with your application:

  • a copy of your identity document;
  • a copy of the building permit;
  • a copy of the notarised deed of purchase of the building; and
  • a certificate from the communal administration confirming the date on which the building in which the integrated dwelling is being installed was first occupied.

You must also immediately inform the Single point of contact for housing assistance of any change that could affect the granting, maintenance, modification or withdrawal of the aid, failing which you may be required to reimburse the aid retroactively.

Amount of the subsidy

The maximum amount of the subsidy is EUR 10,000.

The amount of the subsidy rises to EUR 20,000 if the integrated dwelling is lived in for the first time after 1 September 2023 and if it is completed before 31 December 2026.

However, the subsidy may not exceed the actual costs incurred in relation to the integrated dwelling.

Main, permanent residence

The building in which the integrated dwelling is being developed, or the integrated dwelling itself, must be your principal and permanent residence for at least 2 years from the date of the decision to grant financial aid, failing which you will be required to repay the subsidy retroactively.
