Requesting an estimate for an old-age pension / early retirement pension
Last update
The National Pension Insurance Fund (Caisse nationale d’assurance pension - CNAP) can provide you with an estimate of the amount of your old-age pension or early retirement pension upon request.
This service includes the following items:
- a reconstitution of the insurance periods (recording of periods not yet known to the CNAP, e.g. work periods spent abroad, periods of study, etc.);
- the calculation of the earliest date on which your old-age pension or early retirement pension could start;
- the estimated amount of your future pension at 2 different start dates at the most, i.e.:
- on the calculated start date; and/or
- a later date of your choice.
Important notes:
- The CNAP does not provide an estimate of the survivor's pension.
- The estimated amount of the pension is determined:
- with the data available to the CNAP, including periods supplementing the insurance history which will be reconstituted by the CNAP; and
- based on the continuation of the pension contributions up to the prospective dates for the start of the pension as indicated and/or determined by the CNAP.
- The estimated amount is indicative only.
Who is concerned
Anyone who:
- is over 56 years of age; and
- exercises or has exercised a professional occupation in Luxembourg (salaried or self-employed) under the general pension insurance scheme (for the private sector: employees and self-employed workers).
You do not necessarily have to be a Luxembourg resident, but you must have a 13-digit national identification number (matricule).
Prerequisites
The CNAP will only accept an application for a pension estimate after you have reached the age of 56.
Before requesting an estimate, you must:
- ensure that your application is thoroughly prepared; and
- compile the necessary supporting documents concerning, for example:
- periods of unpaid study or vocational training; or
- periods of employment outside Luxembourg.
How to proceed
Submitting the request for a pension estimate
You can submit your application:
- online via MyGuichet.lu. You can choose a procedure either with or without authentication; or
- by post.
- Procedure with authentication
- Procedure without authentication
How to create a private eSpace on MyGuichet.lu
A tutorial is available to help you set up a private eSpace on MyGuichet.lu if you do not already have one.
The procedure with authentication using a LuxTrust product or an eID has many features that are not available with the procedure without authentication. In particular, the data already stored in your private eSpace will be entered automatically for you.
You can use this procedure if you don't have a LuxTrust product or an electronic identity card (eID).
As the pension estimates are established as accurately as possible, the CNAP reserves the right to admit only one application per person.
By post
You can also submit your application by post using the duly completed application form (see 'Online services and forms').
Supporting documents
All requested supporting documents must be attached.
Submitting an incomplete application can delay the issue of your estimate.
Reconstitution of the insurance history
The request for a pension estimate allows the CNAP to complete and reconstruct the insurance history, as well as to provide a more detailed estimate of the pension amount at a specific date.
However, the amount indicated by the CNAP depends on the quality and accuracy of the data collected.
Application processing time
The response time to a request for an estimate depends on the complexity of the case.
The estimate is sent by post as soon as the examination of the file is completed.
Insurance periods statement
An insurance periods statement is sent annually to insured persons who:
- are not yet receiving a personal pension; and
- were registered for pension insurance in Luxembourg in the year prior to the sending of the statement.
As of the age of 56 and provided a period of at least 120 months of pension insurance has been completed, the annual insurance periods statement will also indicate an estimated pension amount based on the applicable calculation parameters, in principle those in force on 1 January of the year the statement is sent. However, this estimated amount is calculated on the basis of insurance periods in Luxembourg only, without taking into account periods completed abroad or any other additional periods.
