Reasons to call 112

In Luxembourg, by calling 112, you immediately reach the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (Corps grand-ducal d’incendie et de secours - CGDIS), which is able to organise the necessary intervention.

112 is reserved for emergencies and situations such as:

  • accidents;
  • medical emergencies;
  • situations requiring assistance from public services.

Accidents

You must dial 112 for the following accidents:

  • traffic accidents with injuries;
  • accidents at work (e.g. falls or amputations);
  • domestic accidents resulting in injuries or burns;
  • accidents that occurred during leisure activities;
  • drowning or electric shock.

Medical emergencies

You must dial 112 for the following medical emergencies:

  • unconscious or unresponsive persons;
  • severe chest pain;
  • sudden paralysis of a limb or loss of sight;
  • breathing difficulties or suffocation;
  • uncontrollable bleeding;
  • women in labour;
  • suicide threats or attempts.

Situations requiring assistance from public services

You must dial 112 for the following situations requiring assistance from public services:

  • fires, gas leaks or risks of explosion;
  • people trapped in vehicles or buildings;
  • victims of violence;
  • pollution or danger to the environment;
  • missing persons;
  • the discovery of suspicious objects resembling explosives.
