Apply for state financial aid for higher education

To help you meet your expenses, you can apply for state financial aid for higher education (AideFi), subject to certain conditions. To do so, you must submit a financial aid application for each semester (summer and winter).

AideFi application forms and further information are available on Guichet.lu. A calculation simulator will help determine the amount granted, based on your profile.

Find out how to get around and find accommodation

If you're planning to get around without a personal vehicle, you should know that public transport is free in Luxembourg, with the exception of first-class travel. For more information on sustainable mobility, visit the website mobiliteit.lu

Also, if you're planning to leave your family home for more suitable accommodation, explore the options for housing subsidies and how to sign a lease agreement.

Register with your commune of residence

If you wish to establish the dwelling in which you live as your main residence, you must register with the commune where the dwelling is located. This registration is necessary to update your address in the registers and to gain access to communal services. It is also essential to guarantee your right to vote in elections.

Look for a temporary job

Combining studies and work is possible. If this is the case, it is important to be aware of the different types of work contract available:

  • a fixed-term employment contract for students;
  • a fixed-term contract (contrat à durée déterminée - CDD) or a part-time contract.

Please note that if you are in receipt of an income, the amount of financial aid granted by the State for your studies may be adjusted accordingly.

For more information on job opportunities and employment law, you can check the websites of ADEM and the Inspectorate of Labour and Mines.
