Financial aid for the construction of a sustainable residential building (Klimabonus scheme 2026)
Last update
Important information: Continuation and partial reform of the 'Klimabonus Wunnen' financial aid scheme
You will be able to submit your application for the Klimabonus Wunnen 2026 financial aid scheme from 1 January 2026, the date on which the scheme is scheduled to take effect, with retroactive effect if the law has not been published before that date. However, because the law is still going through the legislative procedure, the processing and consideration of your application remain subject to the publication of the law in the Official Journal.
Summary:
You can apply for financial aid under the Klimabonus 2026 scheme subject to certain conditions.
The Environment Agency (Administration de l'environnement – AEV) grants subsidies for investment projects undertaken to:
- improve the long-term sustainability of a residential building;
- implement technical installations making use of renewable energy sources.
This Klimabonus aid can only be granted once and only for a residential building located in Luxembourg. This can be:
- a single-family house; or
- a dwelling in a multi-unit building.
Who is concerned
This Klimabonus aid can be requested by:
- natural persons;
- legal persons established under private law;
- public legal persons other than the State.
You can submit your application in your capacity as:
- the legal representative of a group of natural or legal persons, provided that you are a part of this group yourself;
- the owner(s) of the dwelling, except when there is a change of ownership and the new owner of the dwelling and/or technical installation forgoes the aid in question for the benefit of the former owner who made the investments.
Prerequisites
Only residential buildings – whether wholly or partially residential – for which the building permit is applied for between 1 January 2017 and 31 December 2026 are eligible for aid under this financial aid scheme.
In addition, the building must satisfy certain technical criteria (see the Grand Ducal regulation of 7 April 2022).
In order to qualify for Klimabonus subsidies for a new construction project, you must obtain at least 60 % of the achievable points for the selection of 46 LENOZ (Lëtzebuerger Nohaltegkeets-Zertifizéierung fir Wunngebaier) sustainability criteria in each of the 'Environment', 'Building and technical installations' and 'Functionality' categories.
Depending on the type of building and the year in which the building permit was applied for, specific additional conditions must also be satisfied. These include the sustainability criteria 4.1.1 and 5.8.1, as provided for in Appendix 2 of the Grand Ducal regulation.
Deadlines
Applications for financial aid must be filed with the Single point of contact for housing assistance (Guichet unique des aides au logement) after the end of the works and no later than 4 years after 31 December of the calendar year to which the invoice pertains.
Invoices must be issued between 1 January 2017 and 31 December 2029 inclusive.
Applications for financial aid must be submitted no later than 31 December 2031.
