Useful advice on doorstep selling
Last update
A professional may come to your home to offer you goods or services. You do, however, have certain rights that protect you from possible abuse, in particular:
- the right to refuse any type of doorstep selling, whether or not by affixing a sticker or any other distinctive sign of your refusal;
- if you accept doorstep selling, a right of withdrawal of 14 days.
To avoid unpleasant situations, take the time to check that the company or craftsman is registered with the Trade and Companies Register (Registre de commerce et des sociétés - RCS) and holds a valid business permit. You can also request:
- if applicable, a copy of their professional liability insurance;
- information on the right to withdraw from contracts within 14 days, without having to state a reason;
- a detailed estimate, including costs and timescales.
'Non au colportage' (no doorstep selling) stickers are available from the Ministry of Consumer Protection on request at info@mpc.etat.lu.
