Authorisation to use a recognised qualification

Last update

Summary:

Healthcare professionals in Luxembourg may be granted authorisation by the Minister for Health and Social Security to use their legitimate professional title under certain conditions.

As a healthcare professional holding an authorisation to practise issued by the Ministry of Health and Social Security (hereinafter 'the Ministry'), you are automatically granted the professional title corresponding to your profession. In this case, if you wish to use the official title for your qualification, you must submit an application for the official title to the Ministry of Health and Social Security.

You may be granted authorisation by the latter to make use of:

  • your recognised qualification;
  • where applicable, its abbreviation in the language of the country in which the training took place;
  • the abbreviation followed by the name and location of the establishment or jury that awarded it.

However, if this qualification could be confused with a qualification requiring additional training that you have not completed, you may only use your qualification in a manner specified by the Minister.

The Medical Board (collège médical), the Veterinary Board (collège vétérinaire) or the Higher Council for certain healthcare professions may grant you authorisation to use an academic title or a legally recognised qualification other than that specified by the Ministry of Health and Social Security.

Who is concerned

all healthcare professionals who hold a valid licence in the Ministry of Health and Social Security’s register may apply to use their legally recognised professional title.

Prerequisites

Licence to practice

To apply for authorisation to use your recognised qualification, you must:

If an inactive licence to practise is detected during the procedure, you will be informed of the option to renew that licence via another MyGuichet.lu procedure.
