Participating in the EU-SILC 2024 survey
Last update
A survey on household income and living conditions (EU-SILC) 2024 is organised by the National Institute for Statistics and Economic Studies (STATEC) from 27 May 2024.
STATEC is a state administration under the authority of the Ministry of Economy, which enjoys scientific and professional independence. Its mission is to collect, analyse and disseminate data on Luxembourg's economy and society in a neutral manner.
The purpose of the EU-SILC survey is to collect data on:
- household composition;
- housing and related costs;
- material conditions;
- work and professional status;
- income;
- well-being;
- health;
- participation in social life;
- life as an adolescent.
Using the socio-economic information collected by the EU-SILC survey, measures to combat poverty, inequality and social exclusion can be developed, adapted or implemented.
The selected participants are required to take part in the survey once a year for 4 years running. This follow-up makes it possible to better understand and analyse changes in the living conditions of households in Luxembourg.
Who is concerned
The EU-SILC survey is aimed at:
- households in Luxembourg; and
- the individuals who form them.
One person is randomly selected from the National Registry of Natural Persons and all members of their household are invited to respond to the survey.
All individuals living in the household fill in their answers to the survey in a single form.
Prerequisites
In order to respond to the EU-SILC 2024 survey, the household must first have received an invitation by post.
Deadlines
The questionnaire for the EU-SILC 2024 survey is available from 27 May 2024. Responses must be submitted via the electronic form by 15 September 2024 at the latest.
How to proceed
Responding to the questionnaire
The letter the household receives invites it to participate in the survey via the MyGuichet.lu procedure available under the heading 'Online services and forms' (see below).
The questionnaire is available in Luxembourgish, French, German and English.
See our tutorials which use screenshots to guide you, step by step, through the completion of the procedure on MyGuichet.lu.
The survey questionnaire includes:
- questions on the household as a whole; as well as
- questions which are addressed to each member of the household individually.
The information to be filled in relates to:
- the living situation of the members of the household at the time of the survey;
- the living situation of household members of approximately 14 years of age; and
- the income earned in the year 2023.
To make it easier to complete the questionnaire, we recommend that you have the following to hand:
- bills for current housing-related expenses in 2023;
- salary slips, pensions and other income received in December 2023.
If possible, the member of the household who is most familiar with housing expenses should answer the household part of the questionnaire. Each member of the household should answer the part of the questionnaire that applies to them.
There are 2 ways to complete the questionnaire:
- either by using the authenticated mode on MyGuichet.lu. This method is preferable because you can save the questionnaire in your private MyGuichet.lu eSpace and fill it in easily at your convenience without any time constraints;
- or without using the MyGuichet.lu authenticated mode. Please note: in this case, you must complete the entire questionnaire in one go, and it is not possible to save your answers or resume the questionnaire at a later date. However, the maximum time required to complete the questionnaire may not exceed 2 hours.
The household can contact STATEC for:
- any questions or requests for help with problems with the form;
- the assistance of an interviewer to complete the questionnaire.
To do so, they can contact STATEC:
- by email: silc@statec.etat.lu; or
- by phone at +352 8002 9000 (toll-free number) from Monday to Friday between 10.00 and 12.00 and between 12.30 and 14.00;
quoting the reference number mentioned on the invitation letter.
Obligation to participate
Participation in the EU-SILC survey is mandatory for the selected households. It is a legal requirement.
