Application for a flat-rate aid for the removal of an Asian hornet nest

If you have had an Asian hornet nest removed from your property by a trained operator, you can apply for a flat-rate subsidy to cover part of the costs of this operation.
The flat-rate subsidy for the removal of nests of the invasive alien species Vespa velutina nigrithorax (Asian hornet) has been designed:
- to help adapt to the effects of climate change; and
- in view of the obligation to manage invasive alien species of concern to the European Union.
Its purpose is to support you, as a private landowner, so that you can participate in measures to manage this invasive alien species.
The ultimate objective is to:
- ensure the reliable identification of Asian hornet nests;
- ensure that the intervention complies with best practice;
- reduce risks to the population;
- reduce risks to biodiversity.
Who is concerned
Owners of private land located in Luxembourg.
Prerequisites
The nest that has been removed must be a nest of the invasive alien species Vespa velutina nigrithorax (Asian hornet).
It must be located on private land in Luxembourg.
The operator who removed the nest must have completed a national basic training course covering the biology and ecology of this species, recommendations for nest removal and procedural aspects.
Deadlines
You must submit your subsidy application by 30 November 2026 at the latest.
How to proceed
Filing an application
You may send your completed, dated and signed subsidy application (see under 'Online services and forms'):
- by post, to the Wildlife and Hunting Department (Service faune sauvage et chasse - SFSC) of the Nature and Forestry Agency; or
- by email to neobiota@anf.etat.lu.
Supporting documents
You must also enclose the following documents with your application:
- the detailed and receipted invoice (or accompanied by proof of payment);
- before and after photos of the operation;
- a bank account identification document (RIB);
Decision
Applications will be checked and reviewed by the Nature and Forest Agency. If necessary, it will seek the assistance of experts. The Minister responsible for the environment will issue a decision as soon as possible.

Early stage
The flat-rate subsidy is a maximum of EUR 50 for nests with a diameter of less than 10 cm, starting from 15 March.
The following cumulative conditions must be met to qualify for this subsidy:
- use of methods that do not involve biocides or that ensure the biocide reaches the target without risk of environmental dispersion, as determined by the risk assessment;
- reliable identification of the species;
- photograph of the neutralised nest;
- geolocation of the nest;
- information on the method used.
Advanced stage
The flat-rate subsidy is a maximum of EUR 100 for nests with a diameter greater than 10 cm that are neutralised by 1 June at the latest.
The size of these nests requires specialist equipment, and property owners are therefore required to contact a specialist company, such as a 'pest control' company.
The following cumulative conditions must be met to qualify for the subsidy:
- use of methods that do not involve biocides or that ensure the biocide reaches the target without risk of environmental dispersion, as determined by the risk assessment;
- photo of the neutralised nest;
- geolocation of the nest;
- information on the method used.
The flat-rate subsidy is a maximum of EUR 300 for the removal of secondary nests between 1 June and 15 November.
The size of these nests requires specialised equipment, and property owners are therefore required to engage a specialist company such as a 'pest control' company.
The following cumulative conditions must be met to qualify for the subsidy:
- use of methods that do not involve biocides or that ensure the biocide reaches the target without risk of environmental dispersion, as determined by the risk assessment;
- photo of the neutralised nest;
- geolocation of the nest;
- information on the method used.
