Application for a formal obligation for a short stay in Luxembourg via MyGuichet.lu

Last update

A new MyGuichet.lu procedure 'Demande d’engagement de prise en charge (application for a formal obligation) has been launched online in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade (ministère des Affaires étrangères et européennes, de la Défense, de la Coopération et du Commerce extérieur). It aims to facilitate procedures for third-country nationals who wish to stay in Luxembourg for less than 3 months.

As a reminder, in order to undertake this type of stay, you must carry out various procedures before and after entering the country and fulfil several conditions.

In particular, you must prove that you have sufficient personal resources, both for the duration of the planned stay and for the return to your country of origin or transit to a third country.

More specifically, this condition may be fulfilled by producing a financial statement of support. This formal obligation application must be carried out by a person residing in Luxembourg. They undertake to cover your living expenses (including healthcare costs) and return travel.

The financial statement of support can now be made online via MyGuichet.lu. This is a procedure with authentication that requires:

  • a LuxTrust product; or
  • an electronic identity card (eID).

Please note: approval of the financial statement of support:

  • does not constitute an authorisation to enter or reside in Luxembourg; and
  • does not prejudge the decision that will be made regarding the short stay visa application.
