New developments regarding the change of surname, first name and gender identity
Last update
The MyGuichet.lu online procedures and Guichet.lu information pages concerning the following procedures have been updated in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice:
- application for a change of gender status and of the first name (if applicable); and
- application for a change of surname and/or first name(s).
Any online procedure carried out via MyGuichet.lu by both parents who jointly exercise parental authority over their child will now require the signature of both parents. This signature must be made using:
- a LuxTrust product; or
- an electronic identity card (eID).
In practice, the parent who initiates the procedure signs it and then sends it to the other parent for signature. If the second parent is unable to sign the application electronically, the application must be:
- downloaded;
- signed by hand by the other parent;
- attached to the online procedure online as a supporting document.
These applications can be made, under certain conditions, by:
- adults; and
- minors accompanied by:
- one or both of their parents who exercise parental authority over them; or
- their legal representative.
Find all the conditions to be met, the procedure to follow and the supporting documents required for these applications in our explanatory texts on:
- requesting a change of surname and/or first name(s);
- applying to change one's gender status and first name(s) in the civil register
