Update of our information on patents

As of 1 July 2022, the fees to be paid for the granting of a patent amount to:

  • EUR 40 for the filing fee for a national patent;
  • EUR 450 for the search fee if the preparation of a search report is requested;
  • EUR 49 for an accelerated granting in less than the 18 months it usually takes.

A patent can be applied for by any natural person or legal entity who wishes to secure an exclusive right to their invention. It is valid for a maximum of 20 years.

To be patentable, the invention must satisfy certain criteria. The invention must:

  • be new;
  • involve an inventive step;
  • be likely to have an industrial application.
