National Control and Assessment Committee

The role of the National Control and Assessment Committee (Commission nationale de contrôle et d'évaluation) is to ensure effective implementation of the legislation on euthanasia and assisted suicide. The committee has 9 members, appointed on the basis of their knowledge and experience in this field.

End-of-life arrangements, and any change to them, must be legally recorded by the National Control and Assessment Committee. In addition to systematic recording of end-of-life arrangements in accordance with the law, this commission, upon request, informs physicians in charge of terminally ill patients if end-of-life arrangements are recorded and, if so, gives them access to the arrangements to verify their exact content.

Every 5 years, from the date of recording of end-of-life arrangements, the Committee contacts the persons concerned to confirm their wishes.
