Binding on third parties

A legal instrument or transaction is binding on third parties when it produces legal effects concerning persons other than those who have signed the document or entered into the transaction. In general, the instrument or transaction becomes binding on third parties following a registration, such as the transcription of a property sale agreement drawn up and authenticated by a notary at the Mortgage Registry Office (Bureau des hypothèques) or the transcription of a marriage in the civil register.
