In Luxembourg, the owner or holder of a motor vehicle can request the re-registration of said vehicle, provided the vehicle was temporarily deregistered beforehand.
Any owner/holder of a vehicle registered in Luxembourg who had their vehicle temporarily deregistered.
A vehicle may only be re-registered—i.e., put back on the road—if it had previously been temporarily deregistered, in the course of which process Part I of the Certificate of Registration was returned to the National Society of Automotive Traffic (Société nationale de circulation automobile - SNCA).
The vehicle can only be re-registered if the owner has not changed.
No tax is due when a vehicle is re-registered with the SNCA.
The Customs and Excise Agency determines the tax due on the basis of the data registered by the registration authorities and according to the rates in force. The decision of the final tax is sent to the debtor of the tax.
The Customs and Excise Agency (ADA) now offers the activation of the eDelivery function for road tax invoices. All invoices relating to road tax (Autosteier) can now be issued in electronic format (PDF) in the private eSpace on MyGuichet.lu.
To benefit from this service, interested parties must subscribe to the eDelivery function. Users can subscribe in their MyGuichet.lu private eSpace under "My data" in the "Transport" section, under "Road tax (Autosteier)". This step is necessary to receive the ADA invoice in the electronic mailbox of the private eSpace.
Deposits of new documents in the private eSpace will be notified by email.
Re-registration of one or more vehicles following a temporary deregistration can be made online, via the secure platform MyGuichet.lu, which is accessible 24/7.
After logging in to their private eSpace with their LuxTrust product or electronic identity card, the owner/holder of the vehicle needs to specify:
