Free public transport for people under 25 years of age

Each person under 20 years of age as well as pupils under 25 years of age can, under certain conditions, use public transportation in Luxembourg (bus, tram or train) free of charge.

Under certain conditions, students may also be granted free access to public transportation in Luxembourg.

Who is concerned

Free transportation is available for:

  • children and young persons under 20 years of age without limitation;
  • under certain conditions:
    • pupils in secondary education establishments;
    • young persons participating in a socio-professional job integration measure (traineeship, formal or informal training).

Students enrolled in a secondary education establishment who are over 20 but under 25 years old can also travel for free provided they can present their myCard élève.

Children under the age of 4 must be accompanied by a person who is at least 12 years old.

How to proceed

Persons under 20 years of age do not need a transport ticket to travel for free with public transport.

In order to travel for free with public transport:

For children travelling in groups of more than 6—as part of a school or extracurricular activity, for example—a request must be submitted to the transport operator beforehand. Permission to travel will depend on the technical availability of the desired method of transport.

Children and pupils under 25 years of age travelling by train can only travel for free in 2nd class.
