Since 1 August 2018, persons under 20 years of age as well as pupils aged 20 to 25 can use the Luxembourg public transport free of charge.

Who is concerned

Each young person under 20 years of age, whether they are a student or not, is entitled to free public transportation in all of the country (bus, tram or train). They do not need a transport ticket.

Students enrolled in a secondary education establishment who are over 20 but under 25 years old can also travel for free provided they can present their myCard élève .

Children under the age of 4 must be accompanied by a person who is at least 12 years old.

How to proceed

In order to use the public transport system for free, persons under 20 years of age must be able to present an identity document stating their age.

Students from 20 to 24 years of age included can use the public transport system for free by showing their myCard élève or myCard jeunes.

For children travelling in groups of more than 6—as part of a school or extracurricular activity, for example—a request must be submitted to the transport operator beforehand. Permission to travel will depend on the technical availability of the desired method of transport.
