Directorate for Consumer Protection

The responsibilities of the Directorate for Consumer Protection (Direction de la protection des consommateurs) are:

  • the policy on the legal protection of consumers: consumer policy on the internal market and on the national level - Consumer Council - consumer law, legislative aspects and implementation - traveller rights - relations with the European Consumer Centre EIG - relations with the Luxembourg Consumer Protection Association (Union luxembourgeoise des consommateurs - ULC);
  • food safety: safety of the food chain - implementation of an efficient control and penalty system with regard to foodstuffs - informing and raising the public's awareness - coordination of laboratory work with respect to control - sanitary evaluations - monitoring food businesses, official control of foodstuffs and the food chain, as well as the materials and objects in direct contact with food.
