Summer heat: ensure the welfare of animals
Last update
In light of the current high temperatures, the Luxembourg Veterinary and Food Administration (ALVA) is calling for vigilance from all animal owners, whether they keep pets or farm animals.
During these periods of intense heat, the welfare and health of animals can quickly be put at risk.
Taking a few simple steps on a daily basis can help to protect them effectively:
- ensure they always have access to fresh water, in sufficient quantity and of adequate quality;
- never leave an animal in a vehicle parked in the sun, even for a short time;
- avoid physical exercise during the hottest part of the day;
- provide animals living outdoors with suitable shelter, whether natural or man-made, to protect them from the sun.
During a heatwave, your attention and sense of responsibility are essential to prevent any risks and ensure the animals’ wellbeing.
