Hosting an au pair
Last update
The "accueil au pair" scheme allows families residing in Luxembourg to host a young person from abroad, aged between 18 and 29, for a maximum period of 12 months.
For young adults, it is an ideal opportunity to have an enriching experience outside their country of origin and to improve their language and cultural skills. In return, they are helping to look after the family's children, but also with family chores for up to 25 hours a week.
In order to host an au pair:
- your household must be composed of at least one child under the age of 13 at the beginning of the stay;
- you must pay the au pair pocket money every month. The amount to be paid is 1/5th of the minimum social wage, i.e. at least EUR 463.
The National Youth Service is in charge of managing, monitoring and coordinating au pair stays.
The hosting of an au pair is regulated by an agreement which specifies the rights and duties of the host family and the young person.
