New arrangements for travel between the UK and Luxembourg

Last update

From 1 October 2021, all nationals of the EU (European Union), the European Economic Area and Switzerland will have to present a valid passport to enter the United Kingdom.

However, some Luxembourg nationals are allowed to continue using their identity card until 2025. These nationals are those who:

  • were resident in the UK on 31 December 2020; and
  • have:
    • either permanent resident status ("settled status");
    • or pre-settled status.

Luxembourg and EU citizens do not need a visa to travel to the UK for:

  • tourist visits; or
  • short visits, provided that the duration of the trip does not exceed 6 months.
