Pension insurance
The general compulsory pension insurance scheme in Luxembourg for old age, invalidity and survivors covers all persons who:
- pursue a professional activity in Luxembourg, in return for remuneration, either on behalf of another person or on their own account; or
- can justify periods that are assimilated to such periods of professional activity.
This applies to the following persons and periods:
- employees;
- self-employed persons as well as, under certain conditions, partners and directors, general partners or agents of commercial companies;
- beneficiaries of a replacement income (REVIS, pension, etc.);
- members of religious associations and persons who can be assimilated to them, who act in the interest of the sick and of the general interest;
- apprentices over 15 years of age;
- spouses/helping partners as well as parents and relatives in the direct or collateral line up to and including the third degree of a self-employed person who is under the authority of the Chamber of Agriculture;
- beneficiaries of the "baby years";
- the periods where a person has been working, under certain conditions, in a developing country;
- the retroactive purchase of insurance periods;
- persons performing compulsory military service in the Luxembourg army;
- participants in a peacekeeping operation, subject to conditions;
- volunteers in the service of the army;
- persons who, in a non-professional capacity, provide aid and care to a dependent person;
- persons who take in a child following a placement by an approved organisation;
- persons performing voluntary service;
- parents on parental leave;
- workers with disabilities employed in sheltered workshops;
- persons with a high-level sporting activity;
- beneficiaries of the social inclusion benefit;
- beneficiaries of the allowance for the severely disabled.
