Searching for applicable standards and technical specifications, and product certification procedures

Last update

Some products, which represent the majority of intra-community trade, are subject to technical harmonisation at European level.

Technical harmonisation is achieved through directives or regulations, some of which require the CE marking, through which businesses prove that their products are in compliance with the requirements of the laws, particularly on health and safety.

This marking, which is mandatory for certain products, allows these products to move freely throughout the EEA.

Who is concerned

Any legal or natural person who is interested in purchasing and using normative documents.

How to proceed

Purchasing standards

ILNAS (the Luxembourg Institute of Standardisation, Accreditation, Safety and Quality of Products and Services) has an 'e-Shop' online catalogue featuring more than 200,000 normative documents, where you can perform detailed searches for and purchase national standards (ILNAS and DIN), European standards (CEN, CENELEC and ETSI) and international standards (ISO and IEC) standards in PDF format, under a single-user or network licence (except for DIN).

The catalogue is available in 3 languages: English, French and German.

There are 2 ways you can purchase standards:

  • online using a bank card;
  • online by generating an invoice that you will pay. This option, which is available upon request and only for customers in Luxembourg, allows you to avoid paying by bank card.

To support education, innovation and research, ILNAS offers discounts on its standards catalogue (except for DIN standards) to the national stakeholders concerned:

  • 80% discount for public educational institutions;
  • 50% discount for public research institutions;
  • 50% discount for start-ups.

To enjoy these preferential prices, you must contact the Luxembourg Standardisation Body (Organisme luxembourgeois de normalisation – ILNAS) by sending an email to normalisation@ilnas.etat.lu or by phoning (+352) 24 77 43 40.

In addition, the ILNAS e-Shop has a notification system to get real-time updates about changes related to one or more standards.

Free access to standards

Socio-economic stakeholders can view all of the national, European and international standards free of charge (in read-only format) at any one of the 5 reading stations listed below (DIN standards can be viewed only at the reading station at ILNAS's offices):

Communes of Esch-sur-Alzette and Sanem

Luxembourg City

To view the standards at ILNAS's offices, simply send ILNAS an email at normalisation@ilnas.etat.lu, or call (+352) 24 77 43 40.
