The Seniorekaart is an annual subscription for seniors. It is valid for the entire Luxembourg public transport network, which applies a nationwide pricing system.
Who is concerned
The Seniorekaart is issued to any person who is aged 60 or older.
It is also possible to buy a 1st class Seniorekaart to travel in 1st class on CFL trains.
The Seniorekaart is issued within a maximum of 8 working days.
The Seniorekaart costs EUR 100.
The 1st class subscription costs EUR 200.
How to proceed
Issuance of the Seniorekaart
The Seniorekaart is issued by the Transport Association (Communauté des Transports) (Verkéiersverbond). To obtain one, a duly completed application form must be submitted at one of the following issuing outlets:
To obtain a Seniorekaart from Mobilitéitszentral, the interested party must submit their application in person either at the Luxembourg station ticket counter, or the Belval-Université station ticket counter.
To obtain a Seniorekaart, interested parties residing in Luxembourg-City may submit their application by post or in person to the Reception Desk of the Luxembourg City Bus Services (Info-box).
Luxembourg National Railroad Society offices (Société nationale des Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois - CFL)
To obtain a Seniorekaart from the CFL, the interested party must submit their application in person at one of the CFL stations.
Intercommunal Tramway Authority for the Canton of Esch (Syndicat des Tramways Intercommunaux du Canton d'Esch)
To obtain a Seniorekaart from the TICE, the interested party must submit their application in person at the subscription office of the Esch-sur-Alzette railway station.
Document(s) to be provided
The documents to be supplied are:
- application form;
- ID document (ID card, passport, visa, etc.);
- a recent 3x4 cm photo with neutral background, with the applicant's personal details on the back:
- first name;
- date of birth.
Payment and issuing of the Seniorekaart
The Seniorekaart is paid for at the ticket counter when the application is submitted (a receipt is given in return), or by bank transfer (when applying by post).
The Seniorekaart is issued:
- at the ticket counter: the card may be picked up at the same office where the application was submitted, upon presenting the receipt;
- by post (for residents of Luxembourg-City): the card will be sent to the applicant's home by post. The card will be sent before the validity date of the subscription begins, provided that the application was made in a timely manner.
Validity of the Seniorekaart
The Seniorekaart is:
- only valid for 2nd class;
- only valid in Luxembourg (cross-border travel is authorised at border points for cross-border buses, and up to the last station before the border for trains).
It is valid for one year from the date appearing in the application until 4.00 a.m. of the same date the following year.
Applying for a duplicate Seniorekaart
If the Seniorekaart is lost, stolen or damaged, a duplicate can be issued with the same expiry date as that of the original:
- if the card is lost or stolen, a police report should be submitted with the application;
- if the card is damaged or deteriorated, the original Seniorekaart should be submitted with the application.
The cost of a duplicate is EUR 25 (the official rate set by ministerial regulation).
