Energy allowance for low-income households
The Luxembourg government has introduced an energy allowance for the year 2022. This alowance is intended for people whose income does not exceed the limits of the cost-of-living benefit (allocation de vie chère - AVC) increased by 25 %. The amount of the energy allowance is between EUR 200 and EUR 400 depending on the composition of the household. It is paid together with the cost-of-living benefit (AVC).
Applications can be submitted until 30 September 2022 using the same application form as for the AVC, made available :
- in our explanatory information page on the cost-of-living benefit (also available in 'Leichte Sprache'); or
- on the website of the National Solidarity Fund (Fonds national de solidarité - FNS) or at their reception desk; or
- at the communal administration of your place of residence.
As a reminder, the application for the cost-of-living benefit is deemed complete if:
- it is fully completed: all questions have been answered;
- it is signed by all adult applicants or by their legal representative;
- a bank account identification document (RIB) of the applicant's personal account is attached.
Note: people who have already applied for the cost-of-living benefit
do not need to make a second application. The FNS will review all applications for the year 2022 that have already been paid or refused for exceeding the maximum limits. Thus, in case of a favourable review, the payment date of the allowance is scheduled for 29 April 2022.
