CovidCheck.lu mobile application: update in view of the new anti-COVID measures

The CovidCheck.lu mobile application has been updated in view of the new measures announced by the government in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

When you open the app to check the validity of a European digital COVID certificate (known as 'CovidCheck certificate' in Luxembourg), you now have to choose between 4 different buttons before scanning the QR code:

  • the 3G button
  • the 2G button
  • the new 2G+ button;
  • the 'Travel' button.

3G scheme

In the case of the 3G scheme, you must present:

  • a valid vaccination certificate; or
  • a valid certificate of recovery; or
  • a valid negative test certificate.

2G scheme

In the case of the 2G scheme, you must present:

  • a valid vaccination certificate; or
  • a valid certificate of recovery.

2G+ scheme

In the case of the 2G+ scheme, you must present:

  • a valid vaccination certificate; or
  • a valid certificate of recovery.
If you have not yet received a booster dose, you must also:
  • do an on-the-spot rapid antigen test, which must be negative; or
  • provide a valid negative test certificate.

Travel

If you wish to check the validity of your certificate abroad, you must:

  • tap the 'Travel' button before scanning the QR code; and
  • select the flag of the country concerned for which the app allows you to check whether the certificate is valid or not.

Please note that the app applies the official entry rules of the destination country as published on the dedicated EU gateway service. However, the app does not consider particular rules set by a country in specific situations.

After scanning the QR code on the certificate, the CovidCheck.lu application displays:

  • the name of the person whom the certificate belongs to; and
  • the validity result:
    • green if the certificate is authentic and valid in the chosen scheme;
    • orange under the 2G+ scheme if:
      • the person has not yet received their booster dose; and
      • they must take an on-the-spot rapid antigen test or present a valid negative test certificate;
    • red for non-authentic or invalid certificates.

It must be noted that negative COVID-19 test certificates issued to children and adolescents by the Ministry of Education do not have a QR code but remain valid to access events and establishments which are subject to the CovidCheck scheme.

The CovidCheck.lu application can be downloaded from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. If you have not enabled the automatic app update feature on your smartphone or tablet, remember to update the CovidCheck.lu app in the store from which you downloaded the app.

It is also recommended to synchronise the app with the national system. To do this, go to the app settings and tap the 'Synchronise with the national system' button.
