You are a British citizen, currently working as a civil servant or employee in the civil service (state or communes), and you are wondering about the consequences of Brexit on your employment?
The Government distinguishes 3 situations:
- you are currently working in the civil service: Brexit will not impact your employment, whether or not a withdrawal agreement is reached;
- you wish to hold a position with the State after the entry into force of Brexit with a withdrawal agreement: you will have access to civil service jobs in the same conditions as EU citizens. This employment scenario is only available until the end of the transition period, i.e. until 31 December 2020. British citizens employed in the public administration on that date will retain their status as well as their rights and duties after the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union.
- you wish to work for the State after the entry into force of Brexit without a withdrawal agreement: you will only have access to posts as an employee under private law, and only if the Luxembourg State is authorised to hire third-country nationals by the relevant budget law.
